| Gaia – Harmony with our Mother Earth |
|
Together we are a part of a complex living system called Earth, personified by peoples throughout time as a female figure such as Mother Nature, Gaia or Pachamama. As a conscious and integral part of this living network of ecosystems, human beings have a responsibility to help maintain her balance. Not only organisms evolve, but the entire Earth - from the flora and fauna of its land and oceans to the geosphere, atmosphere and entire biosphere - is constantly evolving, changing, in flux. Science is now validating the indigenous view that the earth itself is alive and sentient, and that we are merely a part of the whole. This knowledge comes with the important realization that we cannot simply pollute, divert, damage or drain her many systems at the current industrial scale without likewise damaging ourselves. The Power of Light![]() We need Nature - healthy, balanced and whole – to survive and thrive. That relationship begins with light. Chlorophyll is the only substance known in nature that possesses the power to trap sunlight, capturing its energy and storing it in plants. We obtain the energy we need to live from the solar energy stored in the plant food we eat or in the flesh of animals that eat the plants. Likewise, the energy we derive from coal or oil is solar energy trapped by chlorophyll in plant life millions of years ago. We live by means of the sun; We live by light. “Every life-form on the surface of this planet is here because a plant was able to gather sunlight and store it, and something else was able to eat that plant and take that sunlight energy in to power its body,” says Thom Hartmann, author of “The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight”. He adds that, "humans cannot create tissue directly from sunlight, water and air, as plants can”. Thus, our very existence depends on plants.
